A new Microsoft CRM 2011 virtual machine has been released and can be found on Partnersource.

Overview

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Virtual Machine (VM) has been architected to provide the tools necessary to demonstrate the power and flexibility of the application.  Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 must be installed on 64 bit hardware, thus this Virtual Machine must be run in Hyper-V on a Windows 2008 server, not Virtual PC. This VM is intended to address three main objectives:

• Accelerate customer-facing demonstrations by providing baseline infrastructure, enhanced data, and rich scenarios.
• Reach markets where the CRM Online service is not offered today and provide an effective alternative for demonstrations.
• Enable development and testing of CRM 2011 demos and solutions in an offline environments where an internet connection is not readily available.

CRM Deployments

CRM

A basic CRM deployment that contains sample data and preconfigured SharePoint integration but no customizations or configurations.  The intended purpose of this deployment is to demonstrate the base startup experience. 

Contoso

A more comprehensive CRM deployment illustrating core CRM capabilities through expanded Marketing, Sales and Customer Service scenarios.  To support the scenario, the deployment has been augmented with enhanced data, dashboards, customizations, processes (workflows, and dialogs), SharePoint integration, and customer and partner portals. 

Facility Management

An example of a facility management application built using the xRM application framework of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.  This application tracks Facilities, Assets and Employees rather than the core CRM entities such as Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc.  Accessible via xRM Tab Group.

Vendor Management

An example of a vendor management application built using the xRM application framework of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.  This application tracks Vendors, Projects and Bids rather than the core CRM entities such as Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc.  Accessible via xRM Tab Group.

Employee Management

An example of an employee management application built using the xRM application framework of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.  This application tracks Employees, Jobs and Job Applications rather than the core CRM entities such as Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc.  Accessible via xRM Tab Group.

Portal Information

This Virtual Machine has been loaded with the Customer and Partner Portals.  The Customer and Partner Portal solutions have been added to the Contoso CRM Organization.  Modifications to the portals have been made so that they can be run WITHOUT requiring access to the Internet for the Virtual Machine.  The portals have been reconfigured to use Active Directory for authentication rather than Windows Live ID.  Each CRM User, Customer or Partner has been added to Active Directory to support this local authentication.  (This configuration is solely for demonstration purposes and is not a recommended deployment scenario for the Portals).  All The portals can be accessed in the Favorites Bar under the folder called ‘Portals’ or from the shortcuts on the Desktop. Note: There is an additional item in the folder Portals on the Favorite Bar titled Reset Portal Cache.  If changes are made to CRM it may be necessary to reset the portal cache for the changes to display correctly in the Portal.

The above information was retrieved from a document found on Partnersource.  This document also contains demo scripts for each of the major CRM components.  This is a very useful document & demo and was not done for 4.0.  Way to go Microsoft!
